When people ask me what I do and I answer Naturopath I am either met with enthusiasm or a blank face, so what is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy uses natural remedies to help the body heal itself. It embraces many therapies, including herbs, massage, acupuncture, exercise, and nutritional support. It’s a form of personalized complementary medicine, where you are treated as a whole, rather than fixing symptoms.
Naturopathy is good at helping conditions such as Insomnia, Stress and Anxiety, weight loss, Menopausal symptoms, female hormonal problems, gut issues, osteoarthritis and healthy ageing.
In deciding the treatment that will be best for you, the Naturopath takes a full health history, looking at how the condition came about, family history, how the condition is affecting you as a person, and most importantly what you can do to move forward. This initial case taking usually takes about 90 minutes.
After this initial Naturopathy consult recommendations may include Diet and lifestyle changes, herbal medicine, or nutritional supplements where necessary. A health plan is typed up and sent to you after the session, sometimes further testing may be recommended.
As mentioned before, this is all about you, and what you as the client feel you can do to improve your health. It’s better to make small achievable steps which become lifetime habits.
Unfortunately, anybody can call themselves a Naturopath, so it’s really important to seek out an appropriately qualified Naturopath. Appropriately Qualified Naturopaths will be accredited to a professional association such as the Australian Traditional Medicine Society, having met the minimum Naturopathy education requirements, and be fully insured.
If you think this might be for you, why not book an appointment.
